Arts Cleveland invites you to a discussion about our sector’s collective work to achieve local public funding for arts and culture. As the organization that facilitated much of that work, Arts Cleveland will share relevant insights, facts and lessons learned from the effort.

  • You’ll hear how we made the case for local public funding, how we arrived at the level of support, and the successes, failures and roadblocks along the way.

  • You’ll also see some of the similarities and differences between the landscapes of arts and culture then and now.

  • After a presentation, we'd like to hear from you.

  • We will wrap up by sharing ideas with each other on what ongoing activities we can all maintain to be prepared for the future.

The arts and culture sector has been a source of great pride for Cleveland.  It is part of our region's identity. It has changed lives and communities. In order for it to continue to contribute in all its various ways to our society, it must be supported financially. Just a few years ago, Cuyahoga County residents agreed to establish and renew a tax on cigarettes dedicated solely for arts and culture. That funding remains a success as Cuyahoga Arts & Culture distributes those funds to over 400 organizations. Many of us know parts of the story. Let's take a step back and view the full picture.

We hope you can join us for this important conversation!
